Literacy Volunteers of Kanawha County teaches Basic Literacy (reading and writing) as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) to ADULTS for FREE. Tutoring is one-on-one with flexible hours. We help with things like citizenship tests, driver's licenses, GED's (HiSET in WV), and learning to enjoy a good book.  LVKC teaches both in-person and via Zoom depending on a student's location. We are based in Charleston but have virtual students in Monongalia, Putnam, Harrison, McDowell and Raleigh Counties. Our students currently come from 14 different countries. Tutors usually work with students twice a week for about 45 minutes a session. We supply both online and hard copy teaching materials.  In-person lessons take place in churches, libraries and community centers.  We are always looking for volunteers. They come from all walks of life with no teaching experience necessary. We hold free tutor training webinars 3 times a year. Students are enrolled on a first-come-first-serve basis year-round. To become a student or tutor call Susan at 304-989-9481 or email brperrone@aol.com

LVKC is an all-volunteer non-profit organization and a member of ProLiteracy.
